Michael and Miranda Hughes have together been teaching English for over 30 years,  They have taught 4 year olds and 44 year olds ranging from absolute beginners to Phd Professors - and everything in between.  Throughout these years they have developed and produced a plethora of materials that they want to make available to English language teachers everywhere.

In 2003 Michael was privileged to obtain the position 'Language Coordinator' working on a contract managed by the Centre for British Teachers (CfBT) which was tasked by the Malaysian Ministry of Education to provide 'experts' to be stationed in Educational Departments so as to be actively involved in developing the proficiency of English Language teachers at both primary and secondary level.  The aim of the project was to identify language teaching needs of teachers and then develop teacher training programmes to help the teachers become much more effective in their approaches to language teaching.  This consisted mainly of organising small and large scale workshops where teachers would undergo training, be given new materials and use newly acquired skills to enhance their teaching regimen.

Initially Michael was employed at District level - Pejabat Pelajaran Daerah Hulu Langat (PPD) but after two years was appointed to carry out the same training to a wider audience at State level by working at Jabatan Pelajaran Negri Kelantan (JPN) for an additional three years.  During this time he developed a great number of training courses and materials and made use of the numerous resources which were also being developed by his 35 other colleagues who were also employed on the project.

Whilst the project was considered to be successful, it was discontinued in 2008.  In 2011, however, the Malaysian Ministry of Education introduced a similar project, but this time it was on a much larger scale and involved foreign teacher trainer/mentors each to be deployed directly in 5 schools, rather than overseeing a large number of schools in a district or state.  The Ministry of Education chose three organisations to run the project, dividing the nation of Malaysia into three separate areas of responsibility.  One group - the British Council had jurisdiction over the States of Sabah and Sarawak.  The second group - Brighton Education was responsible for the southern, central and eastern states of peninsula Malaysia while the third group - SMR HR Group were assigned the more populated western states starting from Selangor and going north to Perlis.  Each organisation was tasked to recruit 120 teacher trainers/mentors who would be deployed in schools chosen by the relevant PPD's in the states they were allocated.

Michael was privileged to be invited to be the project manager of the scheme managed by SMR HR group and was responsible for the recruiting and conduct of the project until its completion in 2016. Throughout this time the group developed materials and resources which were never officially published, but can now be made available for all to use
